Hi, I’m Hannah. I’ve sporadically used this blog for a few years now (so read back if you want more random postings!).
My preferred genres are fantasy (high fantasy over YA), reimagined folk tales, speculative fiction … and I have a secret enjoyment for a good costume drama romance …
I’ve always been the one with my nose buried in a book, which is why a primary school teacher made me start writing book reviews, as she thought it would slow me down.
Actually, I cried and cried (I was 6 at the time) when I got home – I just couldn’t write a book review! I couldn’t criticise a published author! And I didn’t want to think about what I’d just read, I just wanted to move on to the next book, rather thank thinking about why I liked it!
Now that I’m (quite a bit) older, I’m a bit more capable of reading critcally and writing a review. In fact, thanks to Goodreads and NetGalley, writing a review has become part of the checklist of reading a book – and another source of satisfaction.
Like most people, I also have my own work in progress – a high fantasy novel, with magic, young people making poor decisions and Byzantine-style political machinations. I may also post extracts and ideas here.
This is what I look like when I’m not reading books. Here, I’m hugging the top of Trajan’s Column in Rome. Which would explain why I’m gloriously happy 😀
