Review: Through the Water Curtain and Other Tales by Cornelia Funke
Through the Water Curtain was a lovely selection of fairy tales and folk tales from a number of countries. I wouldn't say it was hugely diverse, and there were a few I recognised, but it they were the kind of short stories that I enjoy.
Review: Wilder Girls by Rory Power
What a stunning cover. What tricky content. Wilder Girls isn't a clear one thing or another story for me - the pacing was great, the story telling was really enjoyable. But I've come away from it with the feeling that I've lost my peripheral vision - I was so focused on powering through the story, that I lost sight of the plot itself.
Review: If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane
I found it! I finally found it! A rom com novel that didn't make me cringe! So many have done it before, and yet I keep coming back to the genre. Reading If I Never Met You, I never once rolled my eyes, sighed or gurned. That's some serious progress.
Review: The Princess of Clèves by Catel and Claire Bouilhac
This is a lovely graphic novel adaptation of La Princesse de Cleves, written in the 1600s by Madame de la Fayette. It is a convoluted story of the intrigues of the French court, and of a young woman who must decide whether to a be a virtuous wife, or an impassioned lover.
Review: Brimstone by Justine Rosenberg
There is so much going on in Brimstone, that it is amazing that it is all crammed into a short 96 page novella. However, I imagine that this is also incredibly off-putting for many readers, as very little concession is made to explaining, well, ANYTHING.
Book Review – The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh
Reading The Beautiful feels a bit like emerging from a deep dream. You know you are asleep, and your body is heavy, sluggish and can't be moved. Your mind is still trying to catch up with your body, to tell it to move, but instead you are mired down and tangled in your sheets.

New Years are all about those New Starts ... but in order to start clean and fresh, you need to clear out the cobwebs. These books are definitely better than cobwebs (!) but I think you know what I mean - tie up loose ends, tidy shelves tidy mind etc
